LHR - KEF

Viewpoint near Svalbardseyri

North Iceland

You need to fly into Keflavik Airport (KEF) which is located in the Reykjanes Peninsula, south of Reykjavik. It takes roughly 50 minutes to drive from the airport into the city but there are plenty of things to do on the peninsula if you fancy adventuring right away!

If you choose to hire a car from here, it is very easy and straight forward. Depending on what hire company you choose, you will either collect from right outside the airport or a free shuttle service will transport you to your hire company to collect your car.

If you decide not to hire a car, you can book shuttle buses to take you directly to Reykjavik.

The Icelandic Pledge

When you land you may spot the Icelandic Pledge in the airport!

This is their way of respecting and preserving their land and keeping tourists safe.

We encourage you to take a look as it is important for your safety (it's free, no payment or details required)!

Driving In Iceland

Most importantly, we want all of our beloved guests to stay safe during their stay in Iceland! It is very important to respect the weather and road conditions in Iceland as they can change quite quickly.

The link below will take you to an incredible website that provides real time updates on road conditions across the entire country. During both our trips to Iceland, this website kept us safe and enabled us to plan our day around the weather and road conditions.

The roads and cars in Iceland are left hand drive and the speed is in kmh. Once you leave the city you will notice the only indication of the edge of the road are thin yellow posts. Believe it or not, in the picture on the right we are still on the road although it was nearly impossible to see the edges.

Do not drive offroad.

The Capital City

We recommend staying in Reykjavik; whether you are staying in Iceland just for the wedding or you want to do your own exploring either side of the wedding, Reykjavik is a great base.

You have plenty of shops, restaurants, bars and even some landmarks! Visit our 'We Recommend' page to see some of our favourite places to eat and things to do in Iceland.

We don't have a 'wedding hotel' as we appreciate everyone is staying in Iceland for different lengths of times and has different budgets. However we do recommend areas such as:

Nordmurmyri

Downtown Reykjavik
