You Must Have Some Questions!
Frequently asked questions
No.
BUT you must have 6 months validity on your passport from the date you plan to leave Iceland.
Alice found this out the hard way in 2022 and discovered this was a rule when she tried to check in online for the flight and was denied access to fly! So we couldn't travel! We ended up in the Icelandic Embassy in Iceland begging to be let into the country. Luckily we found a way and had the trip of a lifetime!
Don't be like Alice. Check your passport now!
It's a feeling we can't explain but we will try!
Have you ever travelled somewhere new and the immediate affinity that you feel with that place knocks you over like a freight train? Even if you've never been there before? That's how we feel in Iceland. Alice in particular, feels homesick every single day that she is not in Iceland.
It is known as The Land of Fire and Ice!
It has a magnetic quality that pulls you in stronger and stronger the more you explore. You will see dramatic volcano craters, majestic mountains, incredible rock formations, huge diamonds of ice, sand as black as the night sky, the most stunningly blue water, the most expansive skies. It is so incredibly rich in nature's wonders and so beautifully protected, respected and preserved by the locals. They truly adore and respect their land and it's power and you feel that everywhere you go.
They follow a much more balanced way of life with a huge focus on physical and mental well being. Their ancestry runs deep in their veins and my god are they proud to be Icelandic.
We can't imagine a better place to make the most precious vows to each other and become Husband and Wife and we are over the moon that you can be there with us.
Hire a 4 wheel drive! The weather and road conditions are very changeable in Iceland and a 4 wheel drive will not only make your journeys safer but also more comfortable! In Iceland there are few main roads, the rest are considered F roads which you cannot drive on unless you have a 4x4.
Alternatively if you are remaining on main roads or in Reykjavik a 2 wheel drive will be fine.
The first time we went to Iceland we hired a little Ford Fiesta, it did well but we couldn't reach many locations as it would have breached our insurance and been unsafe to drive on the F roads to access locations.
The second time we did things properly! We hired a Suzuki Jimney for the bants and drove all over Iceland! Even up the side of a mountain (sorry Mum, that was Alfie's idea!).
How long is a piece of string? Haha! In Iceland the weather is very changeable and April and May are considered to be the stark transition between Winter and Summer. There will be less snow and temperatures in May average between 3 and 11 degrees Celsius.
We urge you to bring layers, plenty of which should be water proof. If you are exploring we recommend packing spare clothes and pairs of socks with you in the car.
Icelandic Krona.
1,000,000kr converts to £5779, so do not be alarmed when looking at the price of items.
Yes, Iceland can be expensive depending because they have to import so many goods. Bonus is a great supermarket where you can stock up on the essentials for breakfasts and lunches so you don't feel so bad about spending money on dinner.
We usually use a travel card like Monzo or Travellex. Entirely up to you!
During the summer months of the year, Iceland experiences the Midnight Sun; this means it never gets dark! Without darkness, it is impossible to see the Northern Lights however you will be able to see the most incredible skies full of colour.
Towards the end of May, Iceland has 20 hours of daylight!
